Rt. Rev. Henry Katumba Tamale enthroned and consecrated as Bishop of West Buganda Diocese.

Sunday August 28, 2016, will remain the history of the Diocese of West Buganda in the Church of the Province of Uganda, as the day the Diocese got it's sixth Bishop after the Diocese was curved out of the Diocese of Uganda in 1960.

It was a day of joy and jubilation as young and old, the clergy and laity, men and women, boys and girls, politicians and the masses, Christians and Moslems put aside their differences to welcome the new Bishop of West Buganda Diocese.


Bishop Tamale Katumba Waves to the people
Rt. Rev Katumba was consecrated following the demise of his predecessor the Late Bishop Godfrey Makumbi last June 2015.

The consecration was led by the Archbishop of the Church of the Province of Uganda the Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali, assisted by over 20 Bishops both in active service and retired.

The Vice President of Uganda Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi who represented President Yoweri Museveni and the Kabaka of Buganda His Highness, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II who was accompanied by ten Buganda government ministers graced the function that took place at St. Paul’s Cathedral Kako in Masaka district. 


President Museveni commended the church in Uganda, which has been a very reliable partner of government in social services and economic transformation and further credited them for reaching out to the people to enhance community development. 

The President reiterated his plea for the involvement of the church in the vigilant campaign for good morals and behavioral change among the youth who most times confuse errant lifestyles with modernity.

President Museveni advised the new prelate Henry Katumba Tamale to take on resolute leaning on God for strength and guidance who molds the lives of individuals and families as he discharges his pastoral duties and donated a Toyota Mitsubishi to ease his movement in the diocese.

The function was also attended by the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II who  pledged support to the new prelate and well as the entire Anglican Church in their development programmes across the country.

The Guest preacher was the Mityana Diocesan Bishop Dr. Samuel Kazimba Mugalu who called upon Christians to stop following cults.

In his Charge, Bishop Katumba promised to continue with the 10 year strategic Development plan started by his predecessor. He also said that he will put emphasis on evangelism, spiritual and financial development plus training church leaders who lack the necessary training
