Rotary Blood Bank Team and Standard Chartered Bank Uganda tour Blood Bank at Mengo

The Rotary Blood Bank Uganda in conjunction with Standard Chartered bank Uganda host stakeholders to an accountability cocktail at Mengo Hospital. 
The two hour function started with guests touring the construction site.

Rtn. Sam Owori the RI President Nominee Designate 2018/19 thanked Rotarians in Uganda for contributing towards the Blood Bank. He said that the World needs peace that is missing in most parts of this world. He signed peace as having good health, shelter, safe drinking water and good education. He went on to say that once you have all those components, then you can talk of having peace.
He said that Rotary strives to creating peace and harmony in society. He said that Rotarians in this district are doing good by giving youth jobs (rotary Vijana poa). "When you give youth employment, they can engage in profitable activities so that they do not cause trouble in communities. That's doing good in the world " he said.

He went on to say that after the cancer ward in Nsambya, the Blood Bank project is another mega Project being done in Uganda.

He thanked Stanchart Bank team for helping Rotary to have a face out there.
He said that when he becomes RI President in 2018/19, his major area of focus will be to see how Rotary works with corporates.

He was saddened to note that in Uganda today there's a deficit of 100,000 units of Blood in the country was unbelievable and sad. He posed a question as to why people should think it is the role of government, hospitals or rotary to build a Blood Bank. He then asked "why can't everybody join and we see what can be done?"

He called upon Ugandans of all creeds to join hands in order to see that the Blood Bank project becomes a reality.
Dr. Luwagga on behalf of Mengo Hospital welcomed stakeholders and partners for choosing Mengo Hospital. He specially welcomed Dr. Dorothy Kyeyune the Director Uganda Blood Transfusion Services
Dr. Justine thanked Rotary for coming up with that project. She said that blood is required for various ailments including cancer patients, heart disease patients and accident patients.

PDG Emmanuel Katongole thanked Dr. Kyeyune and UBTS for accepting Rotary to close the gap on blood needed. He said there are limits in resources. Lack of 100,000 units of Blood can lead to loss of lives.

Rotary came up with the idea of the Blood Bank. It is divided into three parts. The first part is the building that was supervised by young Rotarians Dr. Ian.
Phase one is complete at 1bn

Next phase is to finish the building at 1.2bn.
Third part is to equip it and now that we have RI President Sam Owori will assist us to equip it with half a million dollars.
He thanked Rotarian s for donating towards the Blood Bank.

Cancer run donated 200m for the bank
He thanked the corporate institutions that donated and raised funds.
He thanked Stanchart Bank team headed by Rtn. Herman Kasekende. He said that they organised a talent show and raised 50m shillings. He also organised a tour to Stanchart clients and raised a great sum.

Ugandans can get together and try to solve a problem by closing the gap.
Going to launch another fundraiser. There will be a wall of fame for all those who contributed to the Blood Bank.

At the end of the function, the contractor (Home Builders Limited) was handed a cheque worth 274,886,719/=
