Kajjansi's Carboot sale was filled with fun

By Rtn. Hannington Sebuliba
Last weekend, the place to be was Uganda Clays Grounds Kaqjjansi opposite Total.  The Rotary Club of Kajjansi had to endure the Saturday Morning rain to prepare ground for the Open  car-boot sale.  This sale definitely attracted  a lot of attention, from the people of Kajjansi and the sorrounding areas.

The Rotary Club of Kajjansi’s second  Car Boot Sale is a fundraising effort annually to raise funds for the four abandoned children the club looks after in Buikwe. The Event was held on Saturday 8th and Sunday 10th December  from 9.00am to 5.00pm  on both days.

Being the second time the car boot sale, it attracted a slightly bigger number than the one that attended last Rotary Year. This time Five Rotary Clubs participated namely, Kampala Central, Makindye, Entebbe, Kyengera, Rubaga and Kajjansi the hosts. We also had Uganda Telecom a corporate oeganisation participating in our car boot sale.

The ground was a swarm of events as people came in to buy used but useful items. There were also new items on sale at some of the stall. This created a perfect place to do some Christmas shopping.

It was busy from the minute the gates opened until around 5 o’clock

President Enid provided music that kept the people entertained to all sorts of music.  What interested me most was the way Rotarians used their vocal codes to attract buyers. Many of them really have talent in selling second hand clothes.

At this  car boot sale there was much more fun than putting clothes on the stall and  waiting for them to sell.

The Saturday morning rain did not keep shoppers away from our Car Boot Sale. The weather did keep some vendors  bring their merchandise late, but people turned out looking for good buys.   By 8:00am the ground was almost swallowed up by water but the soils helped to swallow most of it to allow our Sale go on without any hindrance

There were plenty of customers mainly interested in children clothes. “Most of the customers wanted children clothes” said Rtn. Flavia adding “we have actually sold all children’s clothes.”

Being the Family month, some rotarians came to Uganda Clays grounds with their children “It seemed like a good outing to bring them over to the Car Boot Sale,” PP Joseph Ddamulira said.

It was spectacular because people actually took their time out to show up in big numbers.

According to Rtn. Juliet the Director Service Projects, the two day event was well attended and actually more rotary clubs (5 clubs) this time participated yet last time they were few. “I hope more clubs will participate in the next one” she said.

President David Businge of  the Rotary Club of Makindye talked of the Car Boot sale as an innovation that has a brighter future. He appealed to other Rotary Clubs in the future to participate so that they participate in the fun as they serve humanity. He said that with good publicity, the next car boot sale will be bigger and better.

Rtn. Isma the treasurer of the club said that the event had been well attended and said that they had raised  about $500 from the sales.
This means the Buikwe children will have cause to smile shen the club eventually builds a permanent home for them.
