Three months later here is Rotary Blood Bank at Mengo Hospital

Three months later the Rotary Blood Bank Project at Mengo Hospital has come to reality.
In August this year, the Rotary fraternity in Uganda together with the management and staff of Mengo and the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese the Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira went to mengo Hospital to dedicate the place where the Rotary Blood Bank project was going to be constructed.
The project has reached this far as of 30th December 2015

Just a flashback; Before dedicating the project into the hands of the Lord, the Namirembe Diocesan Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira, flanked by his wife, Faith Luwalira, said that he was happy that Rotary had understood that “we have to allow God to do the needful in all our projects”. He went on to  say that God was very important in all our work simply because he is  the builder, when we make our plans we have to dedicate them to him, because he is the master planner, and that when we are building this blood bank we need protection which God will provide because he is the protector. And for the money and resources needed for completion of the work, God the provider will provide.

Bishop Luwalira preaching
He also said that because God is faithful, we shall need people who are faithful to use the right materials. “These days contractors are not faithful in that they use substandard materials saying they can do the job” he said.

He appealed to the contractor to be faithful and to use the right materials so that the name of the Lord would be praised.  “We are here to say Lord you are our protector, planer and provider. We ask you to give us all the finances and materials to complete this project” the Bishop prayed.

He told the people present that they were blessed to be part of history to see the dedication of the project and would be glad to see it to the end.

Three months later, the contractors have done a tremendous job. They have so far constructed the ground floor and very soon they are starting on the second floor. This is  very encouraging and a good step in the way Rotary is handling big humanitarian projects that are very visible. The first one was polio eradication worldwide.Currently the world is almost polio free because rotarians the world over give their monies to ensure that no child should suffer from polio again.

The Rotary- Centenary Bank Cancer Centre in Nsambya Hospital
Recently, Rotary in Uganda managed to build a cancer ward in Nsambya Hospital and was completed in a record time. This cancer ward will go along way in handling many cancer cases that are affecting many people in Uganda today. Thanks go to past District Governor Stephen Mwanje and his team "The Uganda Rotary Cancer Program".

at Mengo Hospital
This time thanks go to Past District Governor Emmanuel Katongole and his team, the Rotary Uganda Blood Bank project. These people spend sleepless nights to ensure that the Blood Bank project becomes a reality. The team which sit every months to plan for the project, has done a very tremendous job. They deserve an applause because it is very rare in Uganda today for such projects to take on immediately after the ground breaking has been done. The other corporate team that cannot be left out is Standard Chartered Bank Uganda team headed by Mr. Herman Kasekende. These people have gone a long way to organise fundraisings to ensure that the project become a reality. Thank you very much Standard Chartered Bank.

We can't forget to thank the management of Mengo Hospital and the Province of the Church of Uganda for accepting to offer Rotary a piece of land in Mengo Hospital implement this project.

This is going to be the second Blood Bank in Uganda and the first of its nature being built by Rotary and supported by the people who participated in the Rotary Cancer Run.
This Blood Bank once finished will help to bridge the blood shortage gap in the country.

The Rotary Blood Bank Project at Mengo Hospital is on a steady progress path

This afternoon I attended a wedding at Namirembe Cathedral. On my way back to office I decided to talk a walk to Mengo Hospital which is a stone throw away from the Cathedral.

On reaching the Hospital, I was impressed by the way the contractors are handling the Rotary Blood Bank project. The work is smoothly going on and people who have contributed their monies can be sure that every coin donated has been well spent.

The Western part of the building has reached the wall plate and soon it will be roofed. The rest of the main building will soon have a slab for the first floor.

I was taken around by one the young men doing the work and was very impressed from a lay man's point of view. Great thanks go to PDG Emmanuel Katongole and management team chaired by AG. Ruth Kavuma Nvumetta and AG Ronald Kawaddwa. Kudos to all members who spend sleepless nights to see that this project becomes a reality.

More thanks go to the Uganda Rotary Cancer Programme headed by PDG Stephen Mwanje who wholeheartedly gave the projects all proceeds from the 2015 cancer Run. More thanks go to Standard Chartered Bank team headed by their MD Herman Kasekende.
