Kigo Women Prisoners empowered

By Hannington Sebuliba

Female Prisoners from Kigo Government Prison near Kajjansi have reason to celebrate though they are still serving their sentences.
Last Wednesday, President Peace Taremwa led a group of Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Kajjansi to take a message of hope to the female prisoners. This time they decided to go to prison with a different approach.

Over the years, Rotarians have been visiting these female prisoners taking sanitary towels, bread, old newspapers, soap other essential commodities.
This time round, they took palm leaves commonly known as ‘ensansa’ used for making mats. “We decided to take ensansa to these ladies in prison to enable them leave prison having
acquired some skills” President Peace said. He went on to say that when these female prisoners finish making the mats, the Rotarians of Kajjansi will be buying them, thus empowering these women get some income.

The Club also donated some management books to enable prisoners become better managers in their business. The president said that the books should not only be used by prisoners but also prison warders to enable them improve on their management skills.
